Despite the fact that we’ve traveled all over the Caribbean, U.S., Central America and Europe, we’d never been to a dude ranch. So we decided to try one, especially since our 3 kids were all off doing something of their own. After a bit of research we settled on Bar Lazy J. We could not have been more pleased with our choice. The staff were as good as they get, thoroughly professional and warm and welcoming throughout our entire stay. And they were very good with riders of all levels, whether apprehensive beginners or experts. The food was too good, and I’m sure I gained 5 pounds in the week that I was there. The mood was thoroughly relaxing, and although the dominant daily activity was riding, there were a lot of other options (hot tub, pool, fishing, hiking, playing games) to pass the time. And the great thing about the rides were the places that we went - high up into the spectacular scenery of the Rockies, sometimes above treeline.
Our cabin was within about 70 feet of the Colorado River, and we went to sleep every night listening to the sound of the running water - just idyllic. We’ll be back again soon.
